Short answer: there is no single price for Google Ads. You pay two things: the ad spend Google charges for clicks, and the management fee if an agency runs the account. For B2B, the number that matters most is not the cost per click. It is the cost per qualified lead, and then the cost per customer.

What do you actually pay for with Google Ads?

Google Ads works on an auction. You set a daily budget and a bid strategy. Google charges you each time someone clicks an ad. Your total cost has three parts:

  • Ad spend: the money paid to Google for clicks. You control this with your budget.
  • Management fee: what an agency or freelancer charges to build and run the account. It is usually a flat monthly fee or a percentage of spend.
  • Support costs: landing pages, tracking setup, creative, and sales follow-up. These are easy to forget and they decide whether the ads pay back.

How is cost per click decided?

Your cost per click (CPC) is set by the auction. These things push it up or down:

  • Keyword competition. Terms like “software”, “insurance” or “enterprise CRM” attract many bidders, so clicks cost more.
  • Quality Score. Google rewards ads that match the search and the landing page. Better relevance can lower what you pay for the same position.
  • Country and city. The same keyword costs different amounts in the USA, UK, UAE, Germany or India.
  • Match types and negatives. Broad targeting without negative keywords wastes budget on people who will never buy.
  • Bid strategy and conversion tracking. Smart bidding only works well if Google is told which clicks became real leads.

Do not trust blog posts that quote one “average CPC” for all B2B. The only reliable number is the one from your own market. You can see estimates for your keywords in Google’s Keyword Planner, and you will learn the real figure within the first few weeks of data.

How much should a B2B company budget?

Work backwards from the customer you want. Here is the formula:

Budget needed = target customers × leads needed per customer × cost per lead

A labelled example, using made-up numbers to show the method:

  • You want 4 new customers a month.
  • Your sales team closes 1 in 10 qualified leads, so you need 40 qualified leads.
  • If a qualified lead costs you 100 in ad spend, you need 4,000 a month in spend.

Replace these with your own close rate and lead cost. If the result is bigger than your budget, you have three options: lower the target, improve the close rate, or improve the cost per lead. Raising the budget is usually the last fix, not the first.

What do agencies charge to manage Google Ads?

Pricing models vary, and they change what you get:

  • Flat monthly fee. Predictable. Works well for stable budgets.
  • Percentage of ad spend. Common at higher budgets. Ask what the percentage covers, because it can reward spending more rather than spending well.
  • Performance-linked. Part of the fee depends on results such as qualified leads. It needs clear definitions of what counts as a lead.

Whichever you choose, ask for the fee, the contract length, and what is included in writing. Check that you own the Google Ads account and the data.

Why B2B Google Ads cost more per lead than B2C

B2B buyers search less often, there are fewer of them, and the deal is bigger. That makes each click pricier and each lead slower to close. It also means a lead is worth more. A B2B account can look expensive on cost per click and still be very profitable on cost per customer. This is why we track pipeline and revenue, not only clicks.

How to lower your Google Ads cost without losing leads

  1. Track real leads. Send form fills, calls and booked meetings into Google Ads so bidding learns from quality, not clicks.
  2. Add negative keywords weekly. Check the search terms report and remove jobs, students and free-tool seekers.
  3. Match the ad to the page. One offer, one message, one clear form. Our landing page optimization for B2B work focuses on exactly this.
  4. Split brand and non-brand. Brand clicks are cheap and can hide weak performance elsewhere.
  5. Cut what does not convert. Pause keywords and audiences that spend but never produce a qualified lead.
  6. Use sales feedback. Ask sales which leads were good. Feed that back into targeting.

What is a good return?

Judge Google Ads on cost per qualified lead, cost per customer, and payback time. If a customer is worth 30,000 over its lifetime and costs 3,000 to win, the channel works, even if the click price looks high. If you do not know your customer value yet, work that out first.

Frequently asked questions

How much do Google Ads cost per month?

You choose the daily budget, so the monthly cost is yours to set. Many B2B companies start with a test budget for two to three months to learn real lead costs, then scale what works.

Is Google Ads worth it for B2B?

Yes, when buyers search for what you sell and your offer and landing page are strong. It is a poor fit when few people search for your product. In that case LinkedIn or outbound may work better.

How long before Google Ads produce leads?

Leads can start within days. Stable, optimized results usually take a few weeks of data, and longer sales cycles need more time to show up as revenue.

Should I pay an agency or run it in-house?

In-house works if you have someone with time and skill. An agency adds speed, experience across industries, and a team for ads, tracking and landing pages. Compare the fee against the wasted spend a weak account creates.
